It started out a great day. I left the house on time picked everyone up
close to time planned.
We had a little hiccup for morning pies. We received 2 apple, 2 pumpkin and 2 cherry.
The next thing I
knew we were in Constantine, MI. Yes, Pure Michigan and we were hitting a
panoramic photo shoot of one of the most beautiful sunrises.
We climbed
back in the van driving another hour or so.
The
trip starter back up with stories from college (NOT so good).
We arrived at the studio.
Excited and surrounded by a great group of friends I realized THIS IS IT. Filming was awesome ToolSelect.com
is a great group of guys. Held together by their lovely Office manager
Janice. They have an awesome space located on division. Downtown Grand
Rapids.
We started at the B.O.B.
as Derek Mohr suggested . We stopped ate a little pizza and a burger.
Then we were off from the B.O.B. to Madcap Coffee for a bit of coffee.
We continued on with ArtPrize.
We passed the Amway Grand Plaza across the Grand River to the museum and then the Gerald Ford Museum crossing
back over the river. We headed to our parking garage.
The journey ended
as great as it started. Here is to a great group of men I had the honor
to share Road Trip! 2012 Warsaw to GR and thanks to all who joined us
virtually it was a great day.
The following recaps are from the rest of the guys.
While
Bobby prepped for the shoot, we hung out with the Tool Select crew and
discussed their business plan over coffee. I had no idea they donated
tools to nonprofits! It’s remarkable that philanthropy falls within the
scope of such a new business’ abilities. After Bobby nailed it in only
two takes, we toured the ArtPrize international art contest and saw some
amazing feats of engineering and expression. We agreed that our
personal favorite was the entire top 50 list of submissions. We’re glad
we made a day of it and hope we can do it again.

Due to the 5:30 am departure time, I wasn't exactly excited about Bobby's Grand Rapids Road Trip 2012, , however, it proved to be well worth it. Visiting the guys at Tool Select was a great time. Coffee, doughnuts, and comfortable couches were all provided as the rest of the crew watched Bobby film his tool reviews with the face of Tool Select, Barnaby. The office had a great atmosphere and the staff was extremely welcoming. Many thanks to the guys (and gal) at Tool Select for a fun time in Grand Rapids.

On Sunday I attended a funeral for a fellow construction worker we
worked with earlier this year. At his funeral, a man who had worked
with him for 9 years shared how close of friends they had become
working together. With that in mind, I rode 2 ½ hours to Grand Rapids
this morning to be involved with shooting a tool review for
toolselect.com, but also to enjoy my friends, my co-workers. Music
(“Loser” released 1993 and “Pepper” released 1996; sorry David, Beck
was first) and pie choices (apple please), sunrises in the cold, bad
jokes (to be taken both ways), awkward encounters with new people
(sorry again to our waitress), beer and pizza, art exhibits in a cool
city we had never been to only through, and more created a great day
and good memories with my friends. Sorry so sappy. Now back to work.
